Bystolic For High Blood Pressure

Bystolic For High Blood Pressure Is A Highly Selective Beta-Blocker.

Bystolic (nebivolol) is manufactured by Forest pharmaceuticals which is a supplement to Forest Laboratories. This laboratory is responsible for the research and development of central nervous system (CNS) and cardiovascular pharmaceutical products.

Forest pharmaceuticals communicates medical information about their products to healthcare professionals and the consumer. Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is a risk factor for heart diseases such as heart attack and stroke. Beta receptors, located in the blood vessels, are responsible for causing hypertension. Bystolic, a beta blocker, is an effective medication for hypertension because it works by inhibiting these beta receptors. Beta blockers cause a depression in the heart rate which in turn decreases the work load on the heart and causes the desired decrease in blood pressure. Bystolic is currently Forest pharmaceuticals’ sole beta blocker product. However, the pharmaceutical company manufactures and distributes an additional anti-hypertensive agent known as Tiazac (diltiazem). This is a calcium channel blocker and it is effective in reducing blood pressure by causing a relaxation in the muscles of blood vessels.

Some of the most commonly used beta-blocking agents on the market are Lopressor (metoprolol), Tenormin (atenolol), Inderal LA (propranolol), and Coreg (carvedilol). All of these agents are manufactured by different pharmaceutical companies. The difference between each of these products is their selectivity for beta receptors. Highly selective beta blockers only have an effect on the beta receptors in the heart, which is what we want for anti-hypertensive purposes. Bystolic is a highly selective beta blocker which means it only targets beta receptors in the heart rather than beta receptors in other areas of the body such as the lungs. Bystolic is able to be taken once a day so it is a benefit for the patient compared to those beta blockers which need to be taken twice daily. There have also been very few reports of side effects with this medication.
